Society Leadership
Breana Cham works as a Principal Genetic Counselor at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Singapore. She trained in Melbourne, Australia obtaining a Graduate Diploma in Genetic Counselling and Master of Health Sciences (Genetic Counselling) from the University of Melbourne. Her experience includes the genetics of rare diseases, genetic counseling in multicultural settings and genetics education for health professionals. Her interests include communication in healthcare and genetic counseling processes in the genomics era. As a pioneer genetic counselor in her country, she has contributed to the development of national guidelines for the provision of genetics services and testing. Her leisure activities include performing experiments in the kitchen and trying to keep the garden alive.
Yoyo Chu is a genetic counsellor based in Hong Kong S.A.R., currently practicing privately. She holds a Master of Genetic Counselling from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Her clinical journey began at the Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong, where she specialized in pediatrics, prenatal, and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. She then contributed to the Department of Clinical Genetics at the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital, extending her expertise across pediatric, neurology, cardiac and prenatal genetics. Yoyo’s experience also spans direct-to-consumer genetic testing, with a keen emphasis on carrier screening and hereditary cancer syndromes. As the first certified genetic counsellor by the Human Genetic Society of Australasia in Hong Kong, Yoyo plays a pioneering role in developing genetic counselling practice, education, and public outreach across the region. She is committed to advancing both clinical care and community support, striving to make genetic information accessible and meaningful to families and healthcare teams. Outside of her professional work, Yoyo is passionate about exploring new places, and enjoys pilates and yoga.
Juliana Lee is a pioneer genetic counselor from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the first genetic counselor in Asia to be certified by the Human Genetic Society of Australasia (HGSA). After completing the Graduate Diploma in Genetic Counselling at the University of Melbourne, Australia, she began practice at University Malaya Medical Centre in 2004 till 2014 before moving on to the private healthcare setting. She has contributed to the development of the genetic counselling profession especially in Malaysia. Her field of interest is in reproductive genetics and rare diseases. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching movies and listening to music.
Suraj Manikandan a native of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India is a Genetic Counsellor Consultant practising in South India in Prenatal, Cancer, Paediatrics and Community clinics across the region. Prior to this he had vast experience in all facets of professional genetic counselling in India and abroad. He is a board (India) certified senior genetic counsellor and also currently the executive board member of the Board of Genetic Counselling, India. He is also a professional member of the Genetic Counselling Society, Singapore. He pursued his Masters in Medical Sociology and double Post-Graduate Diplomas in Medical Laboratory Technology and Medical & Genetic Counselling after graduating in B.Tech. He constantly upskills by continuing his professional education/training in genetic counselling and associated fields. He has rich clinical experience in Community Genetic Counselling and has passionately involved in professional development, patient support & advocacy, training and teaching young GC professionals. He is an ardent fan of PSGCA and has a vision of integrating GCs across Asia Pacific to share best practices. Suraj in his leisure time travels to explore different cultures and practices, does adventure treks, dedicates some time to teach children with less opportunities and serve the under-privileged.
Ma-Am Joy Tumulak

Ma-Am Joy Tumulak is a Research Professor at the UP National Institutes of Health and a Genetic Counselor at the Institute of Human Genetics, UP Manila. She is a physician by profession and finished Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of the Philippines Manila. She finished her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling, also in the same university. Currently, she handles counseling of hemoglobinopathies, fatty acid disorders, cancer, and pediatric cases. To help her be a well-rounded person, she loves to travel and read books. She is a dog lover, with currently 7 dogs at home.
Ram Nuique
Treasurer
Ram Nuique is the current Vice-President of the Philippine Society of Genetic Counselors. He is a consultant cancer genetic counselor at the Augusto P. Sarmiento Cancer Institute, The Medical City-Ortigas, Pasig City, Philippines. He manages various cancer researches involving artificial intelligence, clinical, and genomic biomarkers in liver cancer; glycoproteomics in ovarian cancer through liquid biopsy; clinical and molecular biomarkers, and overall survival in lung cancer; and registries in blood, urologic, and liver cancers. He is also a volunteer first aid and BLS-CPR instructor, swimming instructor, phlebotomist, and lifeguard for the Philippine Red Cross. In his free time, he loves to watch the Philippine’s Premier Volleyball League and cheer for Alyssa Valdez and the rest of the Creamline Cool Smashers.
Chinmayee B Nagaraj, CGC, is from India and works as a Genetic Counselor at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati, USA. After completing her Masters in Biomedical Genetics at VIT University, India, she did her Masters in Genetic Counseling at the University of Utah, USA in 2013. She has expertise in multiple specialties; molecular diagnostics and reporting, neuromuscular conditions and pediatric oncology. Her experience in training graduate students, residents and fellows through lectures, supervision and research work is extensive. Her research interests include her clinical areas as well as professional issues in genetic counseling. Currently, she is also a doctoral student in genetic counseling at University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Apart from being a Genetic Counselor, Chinmayee is also a classical musician and an avid traveler. She enjoys painting, hiking and reading.
Yasue Horiuchi
Communication Director
Yasue Horiuchi is a Professor at Shizuoka Graduate University of Public Health and is involved in the education and training of genetic counselors. She graduated from the University of Tsukuba and earned a Ph.D. in Medicine, specializing in Medical Genetics. After completing clinical and basic research training at Tsukuba University, Keio University, and Johns Hopkins University, she acquired certification as a genetic counselor in Japan. Her research interests lie in the fields of clinical genetics, preventive medicine, and genetic counseling, especially for complex diseases.
Ziske Maritska is a motivated Genetic Counselor, Medical Doctor, and Assistant Professor with more than a decade of teaching experience in Genetics at the excellent accredited Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang, Indonesia. She obtained her master’s degree in Genetic Counseling at Universitas Diponegoro, Semarang, Indonesia, and was certified by the Radboud University, Nijmegen Medical Center, Nijmegen, Netherlands. She is also an active member of the Indonesian Society of Human Genetics (InaSHG) and the Head of the Professional Practice and Ethics Committee of the Indonesian Society of Genetic Counselors (ISGC). Her clinical experience ranges from single-gene disorders, cancer genetics, and rare diseases in government hospitals to genomic tests for multifactorial conditions in private commercial settings. As an actively practicing GC in Indonesia, she wishes to contribute more and forge partnerships for the growth and development of the genetic counseling profession in Indonesia and Asia. On some precious time that she makes for herself, you can easily find her lost in fantasy books and manga, or most probably in the corner, drawing and sketching while listening to the muse music on repeat, making the world less loud.
Kunal Sanghavi completed his medical training in Mumbai, India and genetic counseling program in Boston, USA. Kunal leads projects on the strategic growth of ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) program, precision medicine translational research, regional networks, and virtual genetic counseling training initiatives at The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) for Genomic Medicine. Prior to joining JAX, Kunal has worked on clinical projects including telemedicine and genetics service delivery at Johns Hopkins and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He remains interested in genomics workforce development and genomic health equity.
